Abstract
Summary: A new definition of the subfamiliyDipylidiinae is given. It comprises the genera:Dipylidium, Joyeuxia andDiplopylidium, while other genera which until recently were included in this subfamily are separated to form a new subfamilyMonopylidiinae. A redescription of seven well established species out of 34 known is given, on the basis of type material and specimens collected in Palestine. The following species are described:Dipylidium caninum (L.),Joyeuxia pasqualei (Diamare),J. echinorhyncoides (Sonsino),Diplopylidium acanthotetra (Parona),D. nölleri (Skrjabin),D. monoophorum (Lühe) andD. zschokkei (Hungerbühler). The first five occur in Palestine. Remarks on individual variations and life history of the latter are given and the synonymy is elucidated.
